At Ember Coast University, we pride ourselves on providing an exceptional network of libraries, archives, and resources that enable our students to pursue their studies, research, and personal growth with unmatched support. Our libraries are not just repositories of knowledge, but living, breathing centers of magical study, collaboration, and exploration. Each college has its own dedicated archives and resources, while the Arthur Library, the heart of our academic infrastructure, serves the entire University.
Below, you'll find detailed descriptions of ECU’s key libraries and resources, along with unique services available to students, scholars, and faculty.
Our Main Library
Arthur Library
Located at the top of the Student Union, the Arthur Library is the largest and library on campus. Named after the legendary founder Arthur Arkanoen, this library holds an impossibly vast collection of tomes, scrolls, and magical texts—many of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The library's magical architecture makes it far larger on the inside than its exterior suggests, with winding corridors, labyrinthine halls, and mysterious chambers that seem to shift and change daily.
Notable Features:
- The Infinite Stacks: Shelves that stretch seemingly forever, holding texts from every field of study—arcane, mundane, historical, and esoteric. Some shelves even house books in forgotten languages or from lost dimensions.
- Magical Map System: Before entering the main library, students are required to check-out an enchanted map that updates in real-time, guiding them through the ever-changing layout. This is essential for navigating the more obscure sections of the library.
- The Forbidden Section: Protected by an arcane magic field, this area holds texts on dark magic, necromancy, and ancient gods. Only students with special permission (usually upperclassmen or those with faculty supervision) can access this area. Unauthorized entry is strictly prohibited and punishable by expulsion.
- The Whispering Hallways: Students and faculty alike have reported hearing faint whispers, soft footsteps, and even seeing shadowy figures in the deeper sections of the library. Whether these are echoes of past students, magical remnants, or something darker remains a mystery.
Key Resources:
- Ancient Scroll Archives: These enchanted scrolls contain knowledge dating back thousands of years. Some scrolls are interactive, allowing students to converse with the text itself.
- Magical Artifact Vault: Located in a restricted area, this vault houses ancient magical artifacts, some of which are tied to ECU's history. These artifacts are available for study under the guidance of faculty.
- Study Chambers: These rooms are designed for long-term study sessions and offer magical support like self-refilling ink pots, enchanted lighting that mimics daylight, and even a temporal spell that slows time within the room, allowing students to maximize their study hours with less fatigue.
College-Specific Libraries & Archives
Each of the five colleges at ECU also maintains its own specialized libraries and archives, designed to support the unique needs of their students and faculty. These libraries are smaller and more focused than the Arthur Library, but equally as valuable.
Arkanoen Archives
College of Arcane and Theoretical Studies
The Arkanoen Archives hold an extensive collection of arcane theory texts, spellcraft manuals, and magical research materials. This is where students of the Arcane and Theoretical Studies come to refine their magical understanding and research new spells or arcane innovations.
